Aurora Windows 7 Theme is dedicated to the natural phenomenon of aurora where a bright display of natural light occurs primarily in high latitude regions. It is caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the thermosphere. It occurs mainly near the polar regions (Arctic and Antarctic). In northern latitudes, it is called aurora borealis or northern lights while in the Southern hemisphere, it is called aurora australis or the southern lights. Most aurorae occur in a band known as the auroral zone. The auroral zone is typically 10° to 20° from the magnetic pole defined by the axis of the Earth’s magnetic dipole. During a geomagnetic storm, the auroral zone will expand to lower latitudes. The color of the aurora differs depending on the altitude, the composition and density of the atmosphere and the type of gas. The strong yellow-to-green light that is most common is produced by collisions with oxygen at lower altitudes, between 100 and 300 km. Very high in the ionosphere (above 300 km or 180 miles), oxygen is the most common atom, and collisions there can create a rare red aurora. Around 100 km, nitrogen molecules produce a red light that often seems to form the lower fringes on aural curtains. It contains 10 high quality backgrounds of auroras of different colors and all of them are of 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. Hope you like this theme too. 🙂
