This has also resulted in the extinction of large number of plant and animal species and biologists estimate that possibly more than 50,000 species become extinct every year due to the deforestation. At the current rate, one-fourth or more of all species on Earth could become extinct within the next 50 years. Rainforests are habitat to most of the world’s uncontacted tribes and people and the rapid deforestation of rainforests have also resulted in extinction or decline of many such tribes.
